A wide range of heel and foot pain conditions treated
Some of the conditions we diagnose and offer treatment for include:
Plantar fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis is a condition that can last several months and can be treated with physical therapy, night splints, orthotics and using a cane, crutch or walking boot. If these methods don't work after a few months, we may suggest ultrasonic tissue repair, steroid injections, extracorporeal shock wave therapy or in some cases, surgery.
Morton's neuroma
Morton's neuroma occurs when nerves between the bones of your toes become inflamed. Ultimately, this is treated with neurectomy surgery which involves the removal of part of the nerve tissue. Steps can be taken to improve symptoms of the condition including rest, shoe pads, ice packs and wearing good shoes with wide toe boxes.
Achilles tendonitis
This condition leads to painful heels and therefore difficulty walking. We offer advice and treatment such as the RICE method (rest, ice, compression and elevation). Physical therapy may also be used if required.
Shin splints
Shin splints usually occurs after exercise, and feels like a throbbing and aching in the shins. Treatment we suggest can involve rest, using insoles or orthotics in your shoes, icing your shins and recommending medication.
Patella femoral syndrome
This condition is centred around the front of your knee (also known as runner's knee) and is common amongst athletes that do a lot of running and jumping. We diagnose using x-ray, CT scans and MRI scans, and treat with rehabilitation exercise, supportive braces, taping and ice.
Flat foot disorder
Flat foot disorder can lead to cramps and pains. We diagnose it looking at how your foot arches look when you are standing, sitting and walking. We may also X-ray if required. Treatments include supportive orthotic devices, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and physical therapies.
In toeing gait
This condition is seen in children, and is when their feet turn inwards instead of pointing straight ahead. We examine your child's feet and if required fit casts or corrective shoes.
